The African Elephant is the largest of all the elephant species as well as all land animal species. African elephants look similar to Asian elephants but have longer tusks and larger ears. African elephants live in large clans that form smaller family groups. The oldest and larger female is the lead elephant who leads the others in an endless search for food and water. The baby elephant stays with its mother for up to five years and young females stay until they are ready to breed, while young males leave to live with other males in "bachelor" herds.
